Company profile
Overview
Thunder Funding is a freight-only factoring company at 2433 Impala Drive in Carlsbad, California. The company says it was built by a team with more than 35 years of trucking experience and 20 years of factoring knowledge. Its leadership page names Jim Silva as president and co-founder.
Its about page describes founders who started on a loading dock, ran refrigerated trucks and handled claims and inspections before starting a factoring company. Its fleet page says it serves operations from a few trucks up to 100.
Factoring, fuel advances and a fuel card are its core products.
Services
- Freight factoring. Agreements are non-recourse by default. There is no minimum number of invoices, and clients choose which freight brokers' invoices to factor, according to its FAQ.
- Fuel advances. Its fuel advances page says carriers can have up to 50% of the load amount within 15 minutes of loading. Its FAQ says it processes fuel advances seven days a week. The company describes the advances as low-cost; contact the company for the fee.
- Thunder Fuel Card. Accepted at more than 8,000 locations, including TA Petro, Sapp Brothers, AMBEST, Speedway, Stripes and 7-Eleven Fleet. The card includes spending controls and IFTA reports and can receive factoring funds. Thunder advertises fuel savings averaging $0.65 a gallon on its owner-operator page and a monthly average saving of $500 per truck in its FAQ.
- Freight broker credit checks. A free credit checking tool is available 24/7 in its app.
- Account management. Each client gets a designated account manager. The client portal gives 24/7 access to account history and stored images of invoices, bills of lading and freight broker payments.
- Mobile app. The app handles invoice submission, fuel advance requests, cash tracking, fuel card management and freight broker credit lookups.
- Buyouts. Its FAQ describes the process for carriers who factor elsewhere: the current factor sends a list of open invoices, Thunder agrees the buyout amount, buys those invoices and takes over collection.
