Factoring in Arizona
Arizona's receivables profile is shaped by growth. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Economy at a Glance figures for September 2026 (preliminary) show about 629,200 jobs in trade, transportation and utilities, 466,000 in professional and business services, and roughly 227,600 in construction. Manufacturing is smaller, at about 191,600 jobs, but it includes high-value semiconductor and aerospace supply chains where a single purchase order can tie up a lot of working capital.
Construction is the clearest factoring use case. Subcontractors working on housing, data centers and fab sites buy materials and meet payroll weekly while general contractors pay monthly, often holding back retainage. Factoring progress billings is more complicated than factoring a simple product invoice, so read our construction factoring overview before you approach a factor.
The Phoenix and Tucson metros also sit on major truck corridors linking Southern California ports, Texas and the Mexican border crossings at Nogales. Carriers and freight brokers moving that traffic routinely factor loads to cover fuel and driver pay; see freight and trucking factoring. Staffing firms supplying warehouses, call centers and hospitals add another large pool of payroll-heavy receivables, and government contractors serving Arizona's military installations round it out.
Factors based in Arizona
Two listed factors are headquartered in Arizona. Phoenix Capital Group in Scottsdale is a freight factor with month-to-month agreements, no minimum or maximum funding amount, advances of 90% to 100% depending on the invoice, same-day funding when paperwork meets the cutoff, recourse and non-recourse programs and a private EFS fuel card; it does not publish its rate. CSI Factoring Arizona in Phoenix is listed without verified terms. Arizona carriers running the I-10 and I-40 corridors and the Nogales border crossing also have the national freight factors in the comparison table below, several of which are based next door in Texas and California.
UCC filings in Arizona
UCC financing statements for most business collateral are filed with the Arizona Secretary of State's Business Services Division, which maintains the state's UCC index on its UCC page. That page is the starting point for both filing and searching liens. Confirm current procedures and fees there directly, since we could not retrieve them for this article.
The factor you choose will typically file a UCC-1 listing your business as debtor and describing accounts or receivables. Article 9 requires that filing to perfect the purchase of accounts against third parties, so it protects the factor if another creditor or a bankruptcy trustee later claims the same invoices. It also means the next lender that searches your name will see the factor's interest.
Run a debtor-name search on your exact registered entity name before you sign anything. Existing filings by a bank, equipment financer or merchant cash advance provider that cover accounts will usually have to be released or subordinated. Asking about this early avoids a stalled closing.
Arizona law notes
Factoring is generally structured as a purchase of receivables rather than a loan. The difference matters because loan rules and purchase rules can apply differently, and courts examining a particular contract tend to weigh recourse, pricing and risk transfer rather than simply accepting the label.
Arizona's Article 9 appears in Title 47 of the Arizona Revised Statutes. A.R.S. § 47-9406 provides that, once an account debtor is notified of an assignment, it generally must pay the assignee, and that a term in an agreement between an account debtor and an assignor is ineffective to the extent it prohibits, restricts or requires consent to the assignment of an account. In plain terms, your customer's anti-assignment clause usually cannot stop a factoring sale, though the statute has exceptions.
No Arizona-specific commercial financing disclosure statute covering factoring was identified as of November 2026.
This is general information, not legal advice.
Major metro areas
Phoenix and the surrounding Maricopa County cities are the center of gravity: semiconductor and electronics manufacturing in the East Valley, distribution parks along Interstate 10, a large healthcare system and a deep bench of construction trades.
Tucson pairs aerospace and defense contracting with university research, mining-related services and cross-border logistics tied to Nogales.
Flagstaff and Northern Arizona rely on tourism, healthcare and freight on the Interstate 40 corridor.
Yuma combines agriculture, especially winter vegetables, with military installations and border trade, which creates seasonal produce and contractor receivables.
Frequently asked questions
Can an Arizona subcontractor factor invoices with retainage?
Often, but the factor will usually advance only against the portion currently due and exclude retainage until it is released. Expect requests for the subcontract, pay applications, lien waivers and the general contractor's payment record. Some factors decline construction entirely, so ask up front.
Does a customer's no-assignment clause block factoring in Arizona?
Generally no. A.R.S. § 47-9406 makes such terms ineffective to the extent they prohibit or restrict assigning an account. Your customer will still receive a notice of assignment instructing it to pay the factor, and a few exceptions in the statute can apply, so have counsel review unusual contracts.
How do I compare Arizona factoring offers?
Put every quote on the same basis: advance rate, discount per period, how the period is counted, and every add-on fee. Our factoring calculator converts those terms into a total cost, and the guide on reading a factoring contract flags clauses that change the economics.
