Filters use the terms each company publishes on its own site. A factor that doesn't publish a term isn't counted as offering it.
Factor Connection may be paid by participating factoring companies when you request an introduction. Payment never changes the company information we publish.

Minnesota's business-to-business economy has two large engines: farm output that is processed and shipped worldwide, and a broad base of manufacturing and corporate services concentrated around the Twin Cities. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture's 2025 agricultural profile ranks the state seventh nationally in total agricultural cash receipts at $22.2 billion and fourth among agricultural exporting states, with 2023 farm exports of $9.15 billion.
Agricultural receivables are rarely paid the day goods change hands. Trucking companies hauling grain, sugarbeets or livestock, custom applicators, feed suppliers and seed dealers often bill co-ops and processors that settle on fixed cycles, while fuel, labor and equipment costs come due immediately. Food processors selling to grocery distributors face similar gaps. Our page on agriculture factoring explains how factors evaluate seasonal and commodity-linked invoices.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Economy at a Glance shows the rest of the picture. In September 2026 (preliminary), Minnesota counted 3,065,000 nonfarm jobs, including 326,200 in manufacturing, 525,700 in trade, transportation and utilities, 373,600 in professional and business services, 625,400 in education and health services, 182,000 in financial activities and 150,100 in construction. Behind the manufacturing count sits a layer of contract machine shops and staffing agencies that invoice larger manufacturers.
Healthcare staffing and home-care agencies are another frequent user of factoring here, since the education and health supersector is the state's largest and its payers are institutions that review invoices carefully before releasing payment.
Under Minn. Stat. §336.9-501, financing statements covering accounts are filed in the central filing system operated by the Minnesota Secretary of State. The office's online business and lien portal provides UCC and tax lien filing and searching. Its search page lets anyone look up a filing by file number, while real-time searches by UCC or tax lien debtor name require a paid subscription; the page notes that these lookups are not certified searches and lists standard search request options separately. Filing an original financing statement or amendment online requires an account. The office posts its UCC fees on a forms and fees page, so confirm amounts there.
A factor files a UCC-1 against the accounts it purchases because Article 9 applies to sales of accounts as well as loans. The filing puts other creditors on notice that your receivables have been sold, and it is what protects the factor's claim if your business later borrows elsewhere or enters bankruptcy.
Since name searches in Minnesota run through a subscription or a formal search request, ask the factor to share the search results it pulls during underwriting. Review every filing that lists accounts, receivables or all assets, and plan for a release or subordination from that secured party. State tax liens appear in the same system, and an unresolved one can stall funding.
Factoring is usually structured as a purchase of receivables rather than a loan. Minnesota adopted UCC Article 9 in Chapter 336 of its statutes. Minn. Stat. §336.9-406 requires an account debtor that has received notice of an assignment to pay the assignee, and makes a term in an agreement between the account debtor and the assignor ineffective to the extent it prohibits, restricts or requires consent to an assignment of an account. That rule keeps most customer anti-assignment clauses from blocking a factoring sale.
On rates, Minn. Stat. §334.01, subdivision 2, provides that no limitation on interest, finance charges or fees applies to credit extended under a written contract signed by the debtor in an amount of $100,000 or more. Smaller transactions fall under the chapter's general limits, which is one reason true-sale structure matters for small facilities. For commercial financing disclosures, no state-specific disclosure statute was identified as of November 2026.
This is general information, not legal advice.
Minneapolis and St. Paul anchor the state with corporate headquarters, health systems, medical technology, finance, retail distribution and the contract manufacturers and staffing firms that serve them.
Rochester is dominated by healthcare and the research, construction and service providers around it.
Duluth, at the western tip of Lake Superior, combines port and shipping activity with healthcare and the mining and forestry operations of the northeastern part of the state.
St. Cloud and Mankato serve as regional centers for manufacturing, food processing and agricultural trade, with steady trucking demand along the interstate corridors.
Yes, in most cases. Co-ops and processors are typically creditworthy account debtors, and §336.9-406 limits contract terms that would prevent the sale of those invoices. Factors will want signed bills of lading or scale tickets for each load. Payment timing varies by buyer, so ask how the factor handles invoices that remain unpaid past its standard terms.
Searching by debtor name on the Secretary of State portal requires a subscription, but you can look up a known file number for free. Alternatively, request a standard search through the office. Many owners simply ask a prospective factor for the results of its lien search before committing.
Not always. Headline discount rates can leave out application, wire, lockbox and minimum-volume fees. Read our guide to factoring hidden fees and compare total cost on your expected monthly volume, not just the advertised rate. The calculator helps translate a fee schedule into an effective cost.
